OK Art Guild presents Plein Air Workshop with Rick McClure

Sierra Meadow, Oil painting by Rick McClure
The Oklahoma Art Guild is offering a Plein Air Landscape workshop with Rick McClure. If you want to learn to capture the essence and life of a landscape, then join them as they explore 4 different Oklahoma views during the course of a year. This workshop is for the beginner as well as seasoned plein air artist. At each location, Rick will present a 45 minute demonstration and then provide guidance to the students in plein air techniques.

Their first location is Will Rogers Nature Center where students will have the opportunity to paint these historic gardens located in the heart of Oklahoma City. While at the Gardens, visitors can wander along winding paths where botanical delights await at every turn. Inside the garden walls, visitors are surrounded by thousands of roses, irises, azaleas, daylilies and peonies, among other colorful flowers and plants. The rose garden is surrounded by two lakes sits on 10 acres of pristine park land and features hundreds of varieties of trees, including Oklahoma native species as well as specimens rarely found in the state.

Information about our other 3 locations is available on our website at

Labor of Love

Sunflowers in Cobalt Blue Vase,   Oil on 5 "x7"   Linen Panel SOLD  Private Collection in San Saba, TX First, I must say that everything I paint is because I absolutely love. I don't like to paint things that I don't find to be attractive to me for one reason or another. Sometimes it's sentimental reasons and other times it's as simple as beautiful colors or the texture. Either way, it's something that I want to capture and stare at for long periods of time. I want to study it and how it affects the environment around it, as in the case of Sunflowers in Cobalt Blue Vase does. In that respect, I feel ALL my paintings are a labor of love.  More often than not, I have to create a painting, wipe it all down, and start all over again if something is just not working. Some never get completed and I just end up painting something totally different on that panel. Then there are some, that I just have to paint, no matter how much trouble they are giving

Thank you for the happy e-mails, the wonderful advice and sharing of resources, and your kindness and support all around. I've found that simplifying my life can be complicated and messy at first, but I am getting into the swing of things and finding my way around raising chickens, keeping bees, organic gardening and teaching art. During winter break, I started my coop plans--all the things coops had to have and the best way to build it so that that it would not be something my neighbors would mind seeing as they step outside their houses. I must add that I have the BEST neighbors in the world. I bought chickens in March and by April, they were ready to be outside of the broode
