Linda Kukuk demonstrating for the EAA

I have been looking for a way to volunteer in the evenings. When I put out the request for volunteers for the Edmond Art Association Board, I decided I couldn’t send out requests without taking part myself. I now have the honor of announcing that I will be the president for the association for 2010. It is a wonderful organization with great opportunity for all artists.
I first heard of the organization by Tim Rose (I shared some of his work in a past post) when he was doing a demonstration for EAA. The demonstration was impacted with invaluable information on oil painting techniques as he went through his painting process.

This January 26th will be our first demonstration. Linda Kukuk will be demonstrating how she uses claybord (Ampersand Aqua Board) to create striking works of art.
Linda is a self-taught artist with over forty years of experience working primarily in two media – watercolor on paper and scratchwork on claybord. She is inspired by her Choctaw heritage and her experiences in her travels, as seen in this scratch work above of the African Hornbills. Here Linda used watercolor to resemble the vibrant colors of the hornbills. Her meticulous scratchwork brings these birds to life for us to see a glimpse into her journey in Africa.
Eddie Z Two-Clouds is portrayed in this elaborate scratchwork which is highlighted with watercolor. Linda’s talents are not limited to just capturing likeness. It extends to demonstrating characters to the viewer. This is also demonstrated in the watercolor of Eddie Young Fancy Dancer.

Scratchwork was a nice surprise for me, because I have never worked with it. I look forward to learning more about this form of expression from an experienced and talented artist. I do hope you join me. The demonstration is $2 for non-members and free to all members. Yearly membership to the Edmond Art Association is only $30. This includes the chance to attend all demonstrations, take part in the Shows, work posted on the website, and the electronic newsletter, along with opportunities to network.

  1. All three of these are beautiful, but I'm partial to the birds. When I first saw the pic I actually thought it was dimensional, a statue or carving of some sort.

Labor of Love

Sunflowers in Cobalt Blue Vase,   Oil on 5 "x7"   Linen Panel SOLD  Private Collection in San Saba, TX First, I must say that everything I paint is because I absolutely love. I don't like to paint things that I don't find to be attractive to me for one reason or another. Sometimes it's sentimental reasons and other times it's as simple as beautiful colors or the texture. Either way, it's something that I want to capture and stare at for long periods of time. I want to study it and how it affects the environment around it, as in the case of Sunflowers in Cobalt Blue Vase does. In that respect, I feel ALL my paintings are a labor of love.  More often than not, I have to create a painting, wipe it all down, and start all over again if something is just not working. Some never get completed and I just end up painting something totally different on that panel. Then there are some, that I just have to paint, no matter how much trouble they are giving

The Apple Tree that Could

Peonies in Glass Vase,   Oil on 5 "x7"   Linen Panel SOLD Private Collection in Lebanon, IN  Green Apple,   Oil on 6 "x6"   Linen Panel S OLD Private Collection in  NewCanaan, CT    This little painting is of an apple from an apple tree on our property. I've been babying it for about four years now. To my surprise, last year it finally gave apples. However, after a couple of days of seeing the tree with lots of apples adorning its branches, I took my daughter to see the little miracle, but ALL the apples were gone. She looked at me as though I was trying to pull her leg. This year, the tree was filled with even more apples. I hope they mature well so that I may share with my neighbor that's been admiring it.  Still Life with Chanel,   Oil on 5 "x7"   Linen Panel S OLD Private Collection in Pacifica, CA
