Alexia's Quiceañera

I thought that I would let you know what I have been up to. These are party favors. My intention is to incorporate traditional latin traditions with other things that we so much heart. I loved these silk fans. At first I thought they were paper, and that is why I wanted to paint the flowers on them. I am glad they are not paper because I had a hard time with the paint spreading. It would have been worse if they had been paper. I am still very pleased with them. I made 100 of these cones (with Ezri and Alexia's help), but it is the letters that is taking me longer than I expected. I like that they are all different, though. They look a little brighter in real life. This is my beautiful niece, Zinnia. She did not want to take the photo since she had just woken up after staying up all night talking and laughing with Alexia. She cannot take a bad photo, no matter how little sleep she's had. There are six green dresses for the damas, they play the role of bride's maids, for the...

While Taking a Break

I had in my mind to make some new items for my Etsy shop. I put the materials aside, but they kept "calling" to me. So I decided, while I took a break from sewing and painting, to make some jewelry. I have been having fun, but I think tonight, I will try to get some sleep. Oh, and my sister was here visiting from SanAntonio with our favorite athlete (Sammy, number 3; scratch that, age 3). We had fun visiting a few antique shops in Bethany, Oklahoma and found lots of great items. I am looking for brouches for the damas (the girls that accompany the Quinceañera during the ceremony, kind of like the maids-of-honor during a wedding). I AM SORRY. I have not kept up with the art event happenings lately, or the artist wanted postings. I will get back on the ball come September. My goal is to showcase a different artist every Friday. If you want to be showcased, I would need an e-mail stating the fact, a couple of photos (I can download from your site, with your permission), and con...

Update: Pearl and Pink Coral Necklace Oil Painting

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your lovely comments. I do appreciate them all oh so much. Per some of your requests I have posted the original necklace here and I have added it to my Etsy shop . Thank you again. I hope you visit again soon. Pearl and Coral, I Oil on Canvas 6"x8" $98 Pearl and Coral, I detail This was a blast to paint. I really like the color combinations. I had made a similar necklace for a customer, and she pointed out how it would go with everything, because whatever she wore would reflect on the pearl. It pearl is a large potato pearl in a very light cream, almost white surface, but it looked more pink on her because of the blouse she was wearing. I thought it would be perfect for my study of reflective materials. With great excitement, I will go through my beads and see what else I can paint. I can't wait to show you what I find.

Painting of a Pear

Pear, II Oil on Canvas 4"x6" $65 I have worked on this painting off and on for a couple of weeks. I don't know why I kept going back to it. I think it is finally finished now. I hope you enjoy it. Oh, I am continuing my experimentation with different reflective surfaces. I am working on the pearl and coral with gold that is on the "On my Easel Now" section. I am having a lot of fun with it.

What Would It Say?

Key, I Oil on Linen 5"x7" $98 My key is done. Although, once the photo of the painting pop up on the computer, I saw lots of mistakes. Ahhh! Does this happen to any of you out there in the wonderful world of blogs? Oh, thank you, Lindsey Tull for the great advice on painting metals. I still have plenty of prccticing to do, but at least I felt a bit more confident with the knowledge you shared with me. Lindsey does beautiful work. I admire the way ath she can emulate metal. It is fantastic. Visit her blog and see for yourself. I still wonder what the key was for and who it belong to. What stories would it tell?
