Ahhh Fire... Kiln and Torch Fun

So, Sheridan (remember, the owner of A Jeweler's Art Gallery) called me and let me know she was sold out of my enameled earrings. Cool, huh?! So it was time to crank up the kiln and get that torch lit. It was lots of work, and I had to put the oil paints up for a few days, but I had lots of fun. I always enjoy using my powertools. Almost all the earrings are reversible, so you get two pairs in one. I try to use black enamel on several. Oh, I endulged myself with a necklace, as seen on the photo, and a couple of pairs of earrings (Not shown. I forgot to photograph them.)

Into Groups

As part of the Edmond Art Association, I've participated in my first juried art show. It has been fun. I had the honor of showing work with some experienced and very talented artists. Still, I really don't know how, but I received Honorable Mention. How cool is that?! You can see the work of about 30 artists throughout Oklahoma at the Edmond Metropolitan Library the entire month of June. Olives Still Life , 4"x6" Oil on Linen Panel SOLD I got these beautiful, and tasty, olives from Forward Foods in Oklahoma City. They have the most wonderful yummies. Thank you Andrea for letting me know about them. Between breaks from painting, I've been making jewelry. This group of earrings and the enamel pieces below are some that I've been working on for A Jeweler's Art in Paseo. It was thrilling to start my torch again. Even the smell of the kiln running made my heart tingle a bit. Enameling is a blast, but the cutting and soldering metal kept me up the night...

Sharing a Slice of a Yummy Day!

Life is wonderful! I had a great day at school today. The kids were specially good and created beautiful work. I had my committee meeting and it went pretty well. Woo! Alexia had her guitar concert at Harding Fine Art and everyone sounded like heaven. It is an awesome program that they are growing at the school. WSe are very fortunate that she attends school there! For icing on this incredibly yummy cake, I get home and find out I was the winner of a drawing. I won a glorious enameled ring created by Danielle Embry , an artist whose work I absolutely love! Danielle’s work has appeared in publishing such as Metalsmith, Exhibition in Print and 500 Enameled Objects. She uses natural objects as her inspiration, but her genius shows in her way of portraying them in contemporary designs. It is as though the eyes and mind dance between the familiar organic items that they’ve seen before and something that is alien or fantastical. I wanted to share with you my great news! I love to hear yours....

Enameled Jewelry

Give me metal and color and I am a happy woman. Enamels are a wonderful way to paint on metal. There are many techniques that artists can use to get the effect they want. The techniques I used for these two pendants are pretty fundamental, but experienced enamellists create elaborate works of art on their miniature metal canvases. Some of my favorite enamellists are Harlan Butt, David Freda, Marjorie Simon and Sarah Perkins. http://www.harlanbutt.com/ ; http://home.att.net/~dfreda/wsb/html/view.cgi-home.html-.html ; http://www.marjoriesimon.com/gallery.htm ; http://www.mobilia-gallery.com/artists/sperkins/index.html
