Rose in Red,   Oil on 9 "x12"   Linen Panel Private Collection  Woohoo... Yes, daring! Me! It was 3am and I had a commission for a 9"x12" painting, which in itself is such a frightening thought to me. So, I took colors that were left on my palette from the previous day's paintings and played with the colors. I really REALLY loved the resulting colors and gestural strokes and didn't want to make a mess of it by fussing with it too much. However it was not "me" and so came the pink rose (also from the previous day's paintings. I'm very pleased with the results and fortunately so, is my wonderful and daring patron. I always look forward to painting berries. They each have such a wide variation of color that I could stare at them and never tire. So, what to pair them with? Still Life with Antler and Rose,   Oil on 5 "x7"   Linen Panel SOLD Private Collection in New York, NY  A combination of things has triggered an awful painter's block. I have several commission pieces that have being sitting waiting to either completed or just started all together. There have been many times when I struggled with a painting or two, but then I would go on with a new painting and that seemed to give me a better perspective when I went back to the previous ones. However, this has not been the case this time. No matter what painting I started, I couldn't finish it. So, I just stopped painting for a few weeks, which is very rare. Of course I missed playing with my brushes and paints dearly. So, in order to "fix" this block, I decided to just place whatever I grabbed first from my curio cabinet and combine them with some pears and roses (my favorites) and use these as props for still lifes with no plan. It was surprising how well it worked
