The JRB Exhibits the work of Leslie Lienau

Afternoon Splendor by Leslie Lienau The most wonderful part about being a member of the Edmond Art Association is meeting master artists like Leslie Liennau. By means of pastels or oil paints she creates stunning works of art that have adorned the walls of private and public buildings such as Governor’s Gallery at the Oklahoma Capitol and the American Art in Miniature Show at the Gilcrease Museum. Aleene by Leslie Lienau Her artistic studies with Ted Seth at his school in Central France have helped Leslie to developed strong techniques and the ability to create light and depth from a blank, flat surface, bringing to life portraits, rich still-lifes, and splendid landscapes. Flow Blue by Leslie Lienau Leslie is a contemporary master artist by all definitions, and we are fortunate to have the opportunity to view her work at the JRB at the Elms in the Paseo District during the next Art Walk on July 2nd. I’d kindly advice that you not miss out on this great experience for the eyes and t...

About Teaching and Learning at the Same Time

Peonies with Sliced Apple, by Carla Anglada I have started teaching middle school art. My classes are full of characters that give me many stories to tell (with no names, of course). I absolutely love it and can’t wait to share with them what I know. Oh, if you have any great lesson or project ideas, please, send them my way. At this time, all my students are working on one sculpture for El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Each class is creating a part of the sculpture of paper mache skulls and color tissue paper flowers. It will be part of an exhibit at the Gold Dome in Oklahoma City starting October 22nd. I hope you come to see it. I will post more details of the event later. Because I am a new teacher, I have lots of catch-up work to do. This has limited my painting time to almost zero. But now that I am getting a tad bit more comfortable, I look forward to learning from an artist whose work I have admired since I walked into the JRB and spotted one of her 8”x10” master paint...

Oklahoma Arts Festival

The Arts Festival is always an event I look forward to attending. Rain seems to come on those days and I hope this time it is different and the rain waits a few days. It is my way of meeting new artists and seeing what everone is up to these days. This year the Festival is April 21-26. Oh, this weekend has been a busy one. Alexia was Violet in the You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown play at Harding Fine Arts. That was fantastic. I believe the audience was highly impressed. What a pleasure it must be to go to a school where arts are a priority and not an "elective"--for both treachers and students. I sadly missed the opening for Tracey Harris . Let me tell you, the play ended about 8:30pm and so I thought we would enter the JRB and get to meet Tracey and see her work, but there was no parking space! Even though this stopped me from going in that day, it is wonderful to see how much support artists are getting in Oklahoma. I did wake up early Saturday morning to go to the fa...

Tracey Harris

I love the excitement that comes with an artist's opening show. Friday night during the Paseo Art Walk, the JRB is exhibiting a wonderful artist--well, many artists, but one I am really looking forward to meeting is Tracey Harris. As you can see she has an immense amount of talent, great eye for detail, and her compositions to perfection. Not only does she have a great ability to mimic reality on canvas that is admirable, but also motion that makes you want to react to fallen fruit. Plus, she has exquisite taste in music. She is also a Eleni Mandell fan, who, as I have mentioned before, I just absolutely love! I hope you come to the JRB and see Tracey. If you do not have the chance to do so, take a look at her work at the JRB’s website or on her site. Tracey Harris
