Pink Roses and  Turquoise Vase   , 6"x6" Oil on Linen Panel Sold This exercise was such a delightful experience. I threw in a large box of crayons into a brown paper bag, and without seeing I pulled out three crayons for each paintings. My challenge was to find objects for a composition in the colors I had pulled. The three crayons that I pulled out were pink, turquoise, and purple, which at first did not sound like a good idea. Bartlett with the Abstract , 5"x7" Oil on Linen Panel Sold The wonderful thing about having a little extra time to paint is that I get to just "play" with paint. I painted a few panels with abstract shapes just exploring colors and textures and keeping in mind that they would serve as part of the composition for realistic paintings. Roses in Black Vase , 5"x6" Oil on Linen Panel Sold    It's been my dream to have an old English garden--a little kept, a little wild, but mostly with all kinds of ruffly  roses that appear in  Henri Fantin-Latour's flower paintings. Well, this past Christmas, my order was placed to David Austin's Roses and so started my long wait for the roses to arrive (in March) and finally to bloom, which they have beautifully.  The roses above are named Strawberry Hill and the ones below are named Claire Austin and Fantin Latour, one of my must-haves.
