Daffodils in Blue and White Bowl , Oil on Linen Panel 4"x6" NFS I thank you for being such great companions in my journey into oil painting. It was a little over a year ago when I first purchased my set of oil paints (many colors have since been added and others deleted) and set to learn to paint with oils. You joined me when my paintings were so very muddy and my compositions looked extremely choppy. Still, you encouraged me with your kind words and gave me helpful advice from your experiences in art. At the same time, many of you shared your art with me in your own blogs. Your stories have been a joy to read and your artwork a great inspiration to me. I hope you continue to visit, as I have a much more to learn and share with you. Thank you, again.

Sweet Heart Orchid in Green Vase 5"x7" Oil on Linen Panel I have been painting diligently, as I promised. I have finished several paintings, most definitely with spring in mind. The first one is of a small vase I found a while back during one of my antique shop huntings. The orchid in it is a Phalaenopsis, which I think is called the 'Sweet Heart' orchid. I love orchids and this one has been blooming since Valentine’s Day. We got it at the OSU-OKC Farmer’s market for a couple that sell orchids there regularly. If you are in the hunt for the flowers, that is the place to get them. They are at a fair price (considering they will bloom for almost a month) and they are very helpful. Sarah Capshaw is one of those people. She manages the English language in a manner that makes everything sound so very clever and poetic. Sarah continues her unique handling of text in her mixed media artwork, combining bits of paper and found objects while playing with color in order to share with us her dreams and experiences in an aesthetic manner. The Edmond Art Association has the pleasure of hosting a demonstration by Sarah Capshaw on the techniques she employs to create her collage paintings. Painted Box with Mudman 4"x6" Oil on Linen Panel Oklahoma has great antique shops. My favorites are the ones in Guthrie, OKC, and others in Bethany. Oh, there are some in Edmond that I enjoy visiting also. How could I forget? Like most antique shops, they are filled with all sorts of things that I recognize from some time in my past or from a past in which I’ve romanticed as a wonderful time to have been in. The little box and the mudman from this painting I found one of my favorite shops, The Mockingbird Manor in OKC. I always come out with something great from there. Every year, around Valentine’s Day, we (my girls, their girl cousins, and friends) celebrate by having a “tea party.” They dress up with whatever the theme is. This year it was Asian inspired. EAA welcomes Clint Stone, Artistic Director at City Arts Center Oklahoma City. He will share his experiences as an artist on Monday, February 22 at 7:00p.m. at the Edmond Arts Institute. Clint will demonstrate a bit of his creative process, including using source materials or collage, using a sketchbook as a jumping point, using water as a media for backdrop for an artwork, and using different tools and techniques to add actual or implied texture, includint oil sticks, among other tricks of the trade. Monarch Butterfly and Egg , Oil on Linen Panel, 6"x6" I read recently that painting an egg was one of the hardest things to paint and that supposedly, the it was the test for old master painters. That means I should practice painting an egg, if ever I want to be considered a painter of some kind one day. This is my first actual go at it. The butterfly was inspired by the French movie, The Butterfly . It is a wonderfully sweet movie. Among other loves, it is about a man’s fascination with the Isabel butterfly. He collects butterfly of all kinds and you see the walls of his apartment decorated in the butterfly trapped behind glass in picture frames. I would not dare purchase or capture a butterfly for decoration, so I gathered some old photos and painted one. The egg is of course from the OSU-OKC farmer’s market. I am so glad that we had plenty of warning before this big snow fall. I had ample time to order linen panels and purchase the things I needed for my special box, pochade. I have a wonderful easel that my sister, Lety surprised me with on my birthday. I absolutely love it. The only problem is that working with miniatures sometimes calls for a lot smaller easel. I purchased some, but they just didn’t have everything I needed like my big easel does. So, I thought I would make my own (sort of). I purchased a large unfinished wood cigar box and some hardware (some of that was on an old box). I already had paints and gold leaf (Ezri and I have been on a metal leaf kick). A small piece of metal sits on the top so the clip, which has a magnet can be adjusted to hold on to several sizes of canvases. The bottom has a piece of ply-wood that I cut to fit for the pallet. If the pallet is lifted, there is plenty of space for brushes and a few panels. The painting is a combination of a painting of an...
