Strawberry, I 4"x5" Oil on Linen SOLD These are such encouraging words, especially when I feel that I am not making fast enough progress. I am very impatient—more with myself than anything else. Let me start from the beginning—sort of. My girls and I went to some Edmond antique shops a couple of days ago. I was looking for props for my paintings particularly a silver vase. I want to practice painting metal on canvas. Within the area are a couple of very good art galleries. The first one we visited was the Dean-Lively Gallery , which sits comfortable between some little shops. There we enjoyed seeing work by Pat Harris (on Thursday, July 9th, the gallery will host an artist reception for Harris) and other very talented artists. Soft Pink Roses from Spiro , Oil on Linen 8”X10” $168 I believe I have shared with you my love for interior design. I love textiles. I am fascinated with the history of furniture styles. I enjoy seeing collections of items from different cultures make an interesting design. My favorite thing is the creative use of art to create a home. One of my favorite blogs on Interior design is Absolutely Beautiful Things. It is just that. In it Anna Spiro, a designer from Brisbane Australia, shares with us her record of inspirational items. I saw the photo below of the loveliest pink roses. I was so thrilled when Spiro allowed me to use the photo for a painting. I had great fun painting it, but I will have to try it again to show the softness that the roses have and more contrast. I hope you enjoy it and that you visit her blog. I have been busy making lovely jewelry. I have a few other things to make and post everything on Etsy tomorrow. I hope you come and visit. I will work at creating art that will bring beauty to every body and home. I have taken a little bit of time to practice my painting also. I will post paintings and professional prints some time next week.

Recently my grandmother got close to me and whispered in my ear something she has told me since I can remember, “The most valuable perfumes come in the tiniest bottles.” Like she did when I was young, she was trying to make me feel better after someone has poked fun of me for being 4’11 ½” tall. So I credit my grandmother some for my appreciation of all things tiny, small, little, or diminutive. In fact, like many people, I am very fascinated by small objects. Some of my most favorite material possessions are those that I can hold in one hand. In college I found some instructors asking me, “Why are you scared to work big?” I have never been scared to do big work, nor I am incapable of creating larger pieces. I choose to work small. I really don't see why to take up more space if you can accomplish your goal on a smaller canvas. How lucky am I?! I have been looking for an oil painting workshop here in town and found Timothy Rose's website. I noticed he had workshops, but they were a way off from my home. I e-mailed him and asked if he was going to offer workshops in Oklahoma City. He said that he had not planned any at the time, but he was going to do a demonstration for the Edmond Art Association . The demonstration was extremely informative. Tim is very comfortable teaching. We were able to ask many questions, which he answered candidly. I so appreciate that. It was very helpful to get some answers regarding artistic techniques and as a business person. His work is obviously wonderful and demonstrates his great talent and experience. Tim brings with the knowledge that he has gather through practice and from workshops with masters such as Jean Chambers, Gay Faulkenberry, and Sherrie McGraw among others.
