Oil Painting: showing a bit more improvement

Cherry I Oil on Canvas 6"X8" Lemon I Oil on Canvas 6"X8" I think I have gone full circle. When I was growing up all I wanted to be was an art teacher. In fact, when I started at school at OU, I wanted to major in Art Education, but they did not have that there. So, I thought I would get my degree in Fine Art. Then I changed it to photography. That was way too dark for me. I need lots of light. When I went to UCO I changed my major to Interior Design. At the time I was working at the Fabric Factory in Oklahoma City and some of the interior designers would mention that I had a knack for the field. Plus, working with my parents at their upholstery shop I knew textiles, furniture styles, and had measurements down. Anyways, I loved the history of interior design, and even enjoyed the regulations part of it. I detested the drafting part-which is pretty big for interior designers. After a year of drafting it was all I could take. I changed my studies for the last time ...

With Brushes in Hand

Pink Rose II Oil on Canvas 6"X6" This is a painting of one of my first roses of the season. I am not the best at gardening, so I am always so thrilled when something comes up. Of course, roses tend to be easy, so I capture a lot of them in paintings. When it comes to gardening, I plant whatever I like, with no thought to all the "rules" that come with gardening. Apples I Oil on Canvas 6"X6" SOLD I wanted fabric on the background, but I did not have one on hand that was subtle enough. I was inpired by a painting I saw of cherries. Apples are just as nice, I think. I wish my photos were better. I need to pratice taking pictures with my camera. I also finished these two. I haven't decided which one of these will go the Water Street Art Gallery . The rest I will put on my Etsy shop. Oh, I have to brag some more about my children. Ezri's drawing won a contest and will appear on a Child Abuse Prevention calendar. Alexia was one of the MC's for th...

New Oil Paintings in the Works

I have received a few e-mails asking what I am working on now. Well, this is it. I want to put together a series of studies on textiles. When you have a father who is skilled upholster for decades and a talented mother who is a wonderful seamstress, you are bound to develop a love (almost obsession) with fabrics. In fact, I have now limited myself to only buying fabrics that I absolutely love and will use immediately. If not, textiles will take over, and I do not want that. Well, this series started with some silk scraps from Japanese kimonos that I had plan to use as a table covering to set an apple on top as a still life. Somewhere along the way the apple got wrapped in the fabric. Vicki Murray, another brilliant seamstress with a similar passion for fabrics, has given me some beautiful spoons that I plan to incorporate in another painting with some different fabrics. Neither is finished, by the way. I am waiting for this to dry so that I can fix mistakes and so forth. Oh, some of yo...

Oklahoma Teen Advisory Council

So, I have been bragging about my daughters and how tremendously talented they are, right?. This is one of Alexia's digital works. She also does drawings and ink works also. I will show those at a later time, along some of Ezri's art. Alexia has taught herself how to do this--computers are just not my thing. She does them completely from scratch in no time. They are fantastic. This one is for a History class assignment. This is her Honduran girl to represent my country of origin. Anyways, her work and that of other members of the TAC (Teen Advisory Council) for the Arts will be exhibiting their work at the Arts Festival this year. I hope you will support our young artists in Oklahoma. Below are invitations to a couple of community events that TAC will be involved in soon. These invitaitons are hard to see. If you e-mail Ellen Cravens, Americorps Member Community Arts Program Arts Council of Oklahoma City, at ecravens@artscouncilokc.com , she will be able to give you better inf...

ArtzPlaceOK.com

This building just shouts "Creative people within!" I always get asked "Where can I learn to draw, paint, make jewlery, etc.?" "Why don't you teach more?" or "I wish I knew a place where I could do my arts and crafts." I am so excited to share my answer-- AtrzPlace . It is open, clean, and filled with inspiring work from teachers and students. There are so many classes, you are bound to find that one thing you have always wanted to learn to make, paint, etc. They have classes for all ages and space if you want to host a class for friends or maybe rent a room (they are huge) for a friendly critique of sorts. The most exciting thing is that I will be teaching a ceramic class for children this May. It will be a blast! So, all of you who have been asking me for years to teach, this is your chance. I hope to see you there. Later on, I want to teach an adult (16+ yr. olds) enamel class. I love working with enamels, but not very many places teach it...
